Change Your Skincare With The Seasons

The transition from winter to spring offers us a rebirth of nature, but it also changes the needs of our skin. Cold, dry air is gradually replaced with warmth and gradual increases in humidity. As flower erupt, pollen fills the air, and gentle springtime breezes set aloft dirt and other particulates that can clog your pores. I work closely with my patients during this time of year to ensure that they take steps to adjust their skincare routine to meet the changing needs of their skin.

DEEP CLEANSING

Just as we prefer to stay indoors during the colder temperatures of winter, our skin also experiences a type of hibernation. Cell regeneration and metabolism decline, and this give your skin a duller appearance. As the season changes, your skin comes alive once again. While the cells are turning over more quickly, your skin is also exposed to irritants in the air. I recommend that my patients use a deep cleansing scrub to remove dead skin cells and keep their pores free of debris.

LIGHTER MOISTURIZERS

Wintertime is the harshest season for your skin. The natural oils may not be enough to keep your skin hydrated, and you may have opted for a heavier moisturizer. When temperatures and humidity levels begin to increase in spring, change to a lighter moisturizer that does not irritate your skin.

SUN PROTECTION

Although Spring does not have the high temperatures of summer, you still need to adapt to being outdoors more and the elevation of the sun in the sky. If you have been using a light sunscreen or do not use sunscreen during the winter, now is the time to return to your normal warm weather sunscreen.
