Dr. Bonakdar Explains: A common cause for spider and varicose veins is aging. This patient was concerned about the appearance of her spider and varicose vein located on the back of her legs. The veins were treated with a series of sclerotherapy. Sclerotherapy is an effective treatment option because the sclerosing agent injected in targeted veins cut off blood supply and redirect blood flow to healthier veins. As a result, both spider and varicose veins reduce in size and appearance, exemplified in the after photos above.
