Dr. Bonakdar Explains: Collagen loss leads to thinning of the skin and a formation of a fold or a wrinkle. Most of the time collagen loss is due to aging changes. Sometimes collagen loss is due to mechanical impact of repetitive muscle contraction on the overlying skin. This is the case of this lovely patient whose excessive smiling has led to her smile lines!
